Stacey Asher on Portfolios with Purpose, Afghanistan's Education and Economy (Video)
Portfolios with Purpose is an annual stock selection competition wherein each player competes for his or her favorite charity. The goal of Portfolios with Purpose is to inspire individuals to align themselves with worthwhile philanthropic causes and encourages charitable giving on a broader scale. In a recent video, founder Stacey Asher discusses the project and the role of social media in promoting it.
She explains that social media is a way for PwP to reach beyond the hedge fund and finance community to everyone who wants to try investing, wants to compete, has a charity that they’re passionate about, and wants to be involved in a community of people that is trying to do good and have fun. PWP also allows hedge fund managers to promote themselves for the first time and reach people around the world who may be interested in learning more about the companies and how the hedge funds make money.
“It’s another way to take the philanthropic side of your life and social media and combine those to create a revolution together,” she said.
When asked how she sees the future of developing countries like Afghanistan, and if she thought that an online finance and chairty competition could help improve their economy and education system, Asher emphasized that Portfolios for Purpose is open to "abolsutely everybody" and is a great way for people in developing countries to connect with others around the world to share their passions and get involved with a great cause.
